Treasured

As part of my new duties as a budget conscious buyer I have recently acquired a whole new wardrobe from the Salvation Army. Talbot's, Coldwater Creek, Ann Taylor and Chico's are but a few fashion labels that are readily available to the consumer. I was not aware of this until early last year, when my sister Cyndi, who lost an incredible amount of weight, needed a new wardrobe. She set out to find an affordable solution and she has since then purchased a wardrobe that should last for many years. I have purchased possibly, a five thousand dollar wardrobe for about five hundred dollars. This was done in a span of a year.

Looking fashionable does not mean one has to break the bank. I am very aware of the current money situation that families are undergoing due to lay-offs and companies closing their doors. People simply do not have the extra funds to buy clothing at full price. I myself am hanging on a hook because to this day, I still do not know if my company will do away with my department. It is really tough trying to make plans from month to month because I do not know where I will be three months from now.
What I will be doing over the next year will be to help people in my city and surrounding communities, find quality clothing, furnishings and decor. In this case, there is no trash, just treasure. The Salvation Army has consistently offered better quality furnishings in their stores. Here in San Antonio, you will not find one single piece with tears or stains and all pieces are sturdy and ready to be a part of your home. Having acquired several pieces of furniture, I will photograph step by step instructions and offer several videos on how to properly wash your clothing after your shopping expeditions. I have the perfect person for this tutorial as she is an expert in this department!

My sister Cyndi will also be helping me in putting together options for making several clothing pieces work for you. You will be amazed at how many looks you can create with one pair of pants, several tops and an assortment of blazers and jackets.

I am also looking forward to helping women at the Women's Shelter with their job interviews and will be assisting them with their professional clothing choices.

I am very proud of the changes I am making to my life and it certainly makes me feel that I am no longer wasting my time with my own problems which are nothing compared to what others are currently going through.

I know I will treasure and remember this year as the year when I became an adult.

Deanna,
Thanks so much for your visit to my blog and kind comment!
I think you are to be commended for helping women at the Shelter get ready for job interviews!
I love the Salvation Army and Good will stores. I have been losing a bit of weight and if I can lose enough to need a new wardrobe, that is where I will be going to check clothes out. We have a local Thrift Store called Volunteer's of America that is my favorite place. Once a month and now eekly in the WInter, the whole store is half price!!
Thansk again for stopping by!!

Hugs,
Deb

Awww... this is such a nice post. One that makes me feel better about being into second hand clothinging..
My home is nearly all garage sale items...etc. Things no one else wanted..including clothing. I am very careful about it..having it cleaned before it ever enters my home..but I have been amazed at how much better my wardrobe is..and, like you say, how you can do so much with things that don't cost an arm and a leg.
Now my daughters have caught onto the second hand thing..and we enjoy shopping together.

I hope everything goes great for you. So many people I know are in your situation..not knowing what is around the next corner ..not being able to plan ahead..it's hard.
Thank you so much for your visit..and your very sweet comment!! :)
Big hugs!!
